Manulife has appointed Sachin N. Shah as its new general manager (GM) for emerging markets in Asia.
He is now a member of the company’s global leadership team and Asia Executive Committee.
Shah reports to Anil Wadhwani, president and chief executive officer (CEO) for Asia.
As the new GM, he is responsible for driving the development of the firm’s operations in emerging markets in Southeast Asia, namely, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
The GMs of these territories report to him.
“We are delighted to secure a leader of Sachin’s calibre,” Wadhwani said, while citing that his appointment shows Manulife’s continued commitment to the region.
“Sachin has the talent, experience and ambition we were looking for to accelerate the transformation and growth of these businesses,” he added.
Shah brings with him vast industry experience, mainly in Asia and the United States.
He joins Manulife from AIG, where he was CEO for Asia Pacific general insurance.
Previously, he held various senior leadership roles across a 20-year tenure at MetLife, most recently as chairman, president and CEO for MetLife Japan.
