The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the LRT 2 East Extension project is set to be inaugurated by April next year.

The agency said the the 3.8-kilometer LRT 2 East Extension line, which will stretch from the existing LRT-2 end point Santolan Station to Masinag, Antipolo City, has an overall progress rate of 90.95 percent as of July this year. .

The project construction consists of three  packages. Package 1, which is the construction of the viaduct, is already 100 percent complete.

Package 2 which is the design and build of two additional stations – Emerald Station located at Marikina City, and the Masinag Station in Antipolo City – is now 96.265 percent complete.

Meanwhile, Package 3, which is the design and build of the trackworks and electromechanical component system, is at 68.27 percent completion rate.

Set to be inaugurated in April 2021, the extension project will cut travel time from three  hours via bus or jeepney, to just 40 minutes via rail transit. It is expected to increase the rail line’s current ridership with an additional 80,000 passengers daily.

Once the extension project has reached its fruition, commuters from Manila going to Antipolo will have a more comfortable, convenient, and awesome train ride experience!
