GMA Network Inc. said it is targeting to sell up to one million mobile digital terrestrial television (DTT) receivers by February 2022.
In a virtual briefing, Dennis Augusto L. Caharian, president and chief executive of GMA New Media Inc. said the company is targeting to sell within the range of 500,000 to one million units of GMA Now for the first year of the product’s launch.
“We are confident [to reach our target] given the amount of smartphones out there,” he said.
The company recently sold one million units of GMA Affordbox, DTT set-top box, in just seven months since its launch.
GMA will formally launch GMA Now, a plug-and-play dongle that allows users to watch TV on the go for free and enjoy exclusive interactive features on February 7 for P649.
“The target market are people in general. People who love to watch TV, people who have smartphones,” he said.
“We are very proud of this opportunity given to us by GMA to evolve the business further and use technology as a way to navigate ever-changing viewing preferences. With GMA Now, viewers can watch their favorite programs, and more importantly, engage more fully with the shows. It is a new experience that we are happy to have helped create,” Caharian added.
GMA Now is available in portions of Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, Baguio City, Pangasinan, Batangas, Metro Cebu, Metro Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.
It works with any Android smartphone that runs on Android OS Marshmallow (Android 6.0) or higher, Dual Core 1Ghz CPU, and USB OTG support. GMA Now is also set to be available soon for iPhone users.
